We, the worshipping members of the Union Congregational Church of Crested Butte, Colorado, recognize that proper shelter is a basic human requirement. We affirm that all human beings are entitled to assistance in procuring shelter when they are in need.
When Jesus told the parable of the good Samaritan who gave shelter and care to a stranger, his instruction was, “Go and do likewise.” He further explained that, “As you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
We therefore make a covenant, as members of the family of God, to bind ourselves to Habitat for Humanity in an effort to fulfill this obligation of discipleship. We will support and participate in their work of housing the homeless, not only with our financial resources, but also with the strength of our bodies and the power of our prayers. May God bless us with the ability to fulfill this pledge.
