LA PUENTe Mission
Serving Colorado’s San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless and community members in crisis.
La Puente is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Colorado’s San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless and community members in crisis. La Puente endeavors to meet immediate needs and to empower people to live independently with dignity.
The project began in 1982 as a response to the San Luis Valley Community’s need to house and provide assistance to a number of homeless and under-served families and individuals in the Valley. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, La Puente Home expanded to provide a variety of services needed by the San Luis Valley community. Today the services offered include the homeless shelter, food bank network, outreach services, family services, children’s programs, Rethreads, Enterprises, VEGI and Veterans GPD program.
For years, the United Church of Christ (UCC) has been sending volunteer groups to La Puente, Colorado, to assist the community in various ways, including providing shelter for the homeless, preparing meals for the hungry, and offering support for those struggling with addiction. Many UCC volunteers return year after year due to the profound difference they make in the lives of the people they serve. They build lasting relationships with the locals and create a positive impact that extends beyond their time in La Puente. Their service is a testament to the power of community and human connection, reminding us of the potential we all have to make a difference in the world around us.
